Shift

In this 3D animation, I explore the concept of reality shifting through the lens of quantum immortality. Quantum immortality is a phenomenon that suggests that when we encounter near-death experiences, our physical form may die in one reality, but our consciousness, or soul, shifts into an alternate timeline where we survive. In this way, we create an immortal state of being, endlessly slipping between versions of reality where death is always narrowly avoided. Each shift is both a rebirth and a death, displaying the theory that consciousness continues in a parallel reality each time it "should" have ended.

By combining surreal visuals with a haunting atmosphere, this piece invites the audience to question the nature of identity and continuity. If we are always escaping death by becoming someone new in a new world, are we still the same person? Or are we leaving pieces of ourselves behind in every timeline we abandon? This piece encapsulated the meaning of what it means to live forever, everywhere, all at once.

Adaptation of Mind - BFA Senior Thesis

Adaptation of Mind is a 3D animated short of a journey through one's mind. The animated short is an artistic representation of trauma and how it affects and disturbs the mind but also how we overcome it. The mind is represented through the depiction of a bedroom, rewaking up to what feels like the same day over and over again in a different period of our life. The changing of the rooms is an example of how we as individuals change preferences and lifestyles as time progresses, but our mind and our experience of past trauma does not change. This piece is shot as a "point of view" film to represent the immersive nature of the mind.

The technical depiction of trauma and how it feels is represented with special effects created using Autodesk Maya. These effects metaphorically visualize the bad experiences that we sometimes have in our lifetime. Sometimes these experiences make us stronger and bring us to a better and positive place. As we go through different periods of our life, we overcome these mental obstacles, and they open up new doors. Only then are we able to thrive once again, where we no longer let such experiences take over our lives. Adaptation of Mind ventures through the major development phases of a person's life. As the film progresses, the effects of the trauma increases until we must seek change. The piece concludes when the main character finally leaves the traumatic experiences behind and fights their inner demons head on. This battle represents moving on from the past and closing the door to the past.

Throughout my life, I have often felt as if I was 'drowning." In this film I wanted to reflect the internal battle that everyone faces and create the feeling of hope in the end. I want to bring light to how everyone experiences some sort of trauma that may still affect them today. Overall, I want to inspire positive change in the world and help to achieve a healthier state of being by showing that there is light in the midst of the darkness.
